To achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we need the help of private enterprises as major development-policy actors. Only if governments, companies and civil society work together worldwide can we bring about a better life for all.

The private sector is important for employment, productivity and inclusive economic growth. It needs to be developed to make an effective contribution to poverty reduction.

To harness the potential of the Austrian and European private sector for development cooperation, the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) provides various aid instruments:

Business partnerships – that is, funding facilities for projects by enterprises that are engaged in a partner country long term and contribute to sustainable development in the process.
Strategic partnerships: programmatic initiatives that go beyond the immediate environment of an individual company, aim at   systemic improvements in partner countries and make a tangible contribution to implementing the 2030 Agenda (of the SDGs).
- "Initiativen in Österreich" (Initiatives in Austria) aims at raising awareness among the private sector for the Global Goals, initiate processes of rethinking and innovate partnerships for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
- Challenges: competitions of ideas for businesses in response to specific development-policy challenges.
