A strategic partnership builds on long-standing cooperation in framework programmes between ADA and an Austrian development organisation. It requires at least a five-year programme strategy of the organisation and consists of strategic programmes in one or several developing countries. A strategic partnership must be geared to results, achieve capacity-building, sustainable and measurable impacts and make a substantial contribution to reducing poverty and improving the conditions of life in the programme region.

A strategic partnership lasts a maximum of five years. The programme must be implemented in key regions or priority countries of Austrian Development Cooperation and the minimum overall budget must amount to EUR 2,500,000. Development organisations with at least six years experience with framework programmes express their interest in a strategic partnership to ADA and submit within an agreed period a programme design outlining the strategic, thematic and geographical focus, a so-called concept note.
