Since its declaration of independence in 2008, Kosovo has faced serious political, ethnic, economic and social problems, corruption being a major one. The current development phase is crucial for establishing democracy, rule of law and a market economy regime in the country. The Austrian Development Agency attaches priority in its cooperation to rural/economic development on the one hand and the promotion of local institutional capacities on the other. Together with support for the private sector, this will contribute directly to poverty reduction and boost economic growth.

EDUCATION IS THE FUTURE

Another major objective of ADA in the course of its cooperation with Kosovo is developing a modern higher education system to international standards. It has helped to design modern courses and raise the quality of academic teaching, research and management. A quality assurance system has been in place in the European network since 2014 that monitors minimum standards in higher education institutions. With these and other measures, Austria makes tangible contributions to improving study and research conditions for over 100,000 students at public universities, but also private institutions via quality assurance.
