Austrian Development Cooperation

Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) supports countries in Africa, Asia and Central America as well as in South Eastern and Eastern Europe in their sustainable social, economic and democratic development. The Foreign Ministry (FMEIA) plans ADC strategies and programmes. The Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the operational unit of ADC, implements these together with public institutions, non-governmental organisations and enterprises.

Individual Projects East

The cofinancing instrument, Individual Projects, East is available to Austrian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) implementing multi-year projects together with local partner organisations that contribute to a sustainable improvement in the conditions of life for the target groups and to poverty reduction in developing countries. Cooperation with relevant local and international organisations and strengthening target groups through capacity development for sustainability must make up major integral parts of the project activities.

Ineligible for funding are studies and projects devised solely for transporting persons or goods to a developing country or more than half of whose costs are allocated for physical construction and/or procurement (including requisite personnel expenditure).

Entitled to apply are legal entities such as societies, foundations, trade unions, regional/local administrative bodies or other public-law corporations domiciled in Austria. Individuals are not entitled to apply.

Maximum confinance by Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) amounts to EUR 100,000 with a funding quota of 50 per cent of the total costs. Assisted are projects in following countries:

  • Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo
  • Armenia, Georgia, Moldova

The project term amounts to between two and three years. The annual submission deadline for grant applications is February 28th respectively 29th.

The upcoming deadline for submission of proposals is 28 February 2013.


Substantive Focus: Assisted are projects for poverty reduction that aim at the following specific objectives:

  • Conflict prevention and safeguarding peace
  • Promotion of human rights, combating human trafficking
  • Strengthening social institutions
  • Inclusion of persons with disabilities
  • Fighting HIV/AIDS and its direct consequences


All projects must take account of gender equality, preservation of the environment and the inclusion of underprivileged groups such as children, old people and persons with disabilities.
