Austrian Development Cooperation

Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) supports countries in Africa, Asia and Central America as well as in South Eastern and Eastern Europe in their sustainable social, economic and democratic development. The Foreign Ministry (FMEIA) plans ADC strategies and programmes. The Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the operational unit of ADC, implements these together with public institutions, non-governmental organisations and enterprises.

Learning from each other

On July 16th 2010 two parliamentarians from the Kingdom Bhutan visited the Austrian Development Agency. The visit was scheduled in the course of the project "North-South Dialogue of Parliaments".

Parliamentarians Sonam Penjore and Namgay Wangchuck met Director Programmes and Projects Robert Zeiner and Petra Schirnhofer (ADA).

The focus of this project was to engage in an exchange of opinions and experiences between parliamentarians. Sonam Penjore and Namgay Wangchuck met Austrian members of Parliament from different parties, among them the President of the Austrian National Council Barbara Prammer.

In the course of the one week visit ideas for a more efficient working of parliaments and the tasks and responsibilities of parliaments were discussed. Additionally the awareness of Austrian Parliamentarians for the topic development cooperation was raised.

Cooperation with the Kingdom Bhutan

An office of the Austrian Development Cooperation was established in Thimpu, the capital of the Kingdom Bhutan, in 1994.As of 1998, activities are planned bilaterally and recorded in writing at annual consultations. A constitutional monarchy was introduced in the last Buddhist Himalayan kingdom in 2008.
