Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development poses significant challenges for national stakeholders to collect, track and monitor progress on the ambitious gender equality goals and targets. Significant data gaps persist, with a majority of the SDG 5 targets having no methodology or data sources. In addition, poor co-ordination, dialogue and collaboration between national gender machineries, statistical offices and civil society organisations weakens the efficiency of policy interventions, and decreases opportunities to improve accountability of political commitments to women and girls.
