Assistance and Protection Activities of the ICRC in Ethiopia
Projektträger: International Committee of the Red Cross - Switzerland Land: Ethiopia Vertragssumme: € 400.000,00 Beginn: 01.11.2005 Ende: 31.12.2005
The project supports the uninterrupted progress of the large scale humanitarian activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Ethiopia, which is currently amongst the most seriously underfunded ICRC operations in Africa. The assistance and protection activities financed through the project focus on meeting the needs of people detained, displaced or otherwise affected by the 1998-2000 international armed conflict with Eritrea or by internal violence or disturbances, needs which are often aggravated by poor seasonal rainfall. The ICRC provides emergency aid, but also medium-term assistance, through water, health, veterinary and agricultural projects, to preserve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities. It supports physical rehabilitation services for war amputees and other disabled people, restores family links, promotes international humanitarian law (IHL) within the government and armed forces and assists the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) in developing its capacity.
