Relief and Technical Assistance Response to Drought Crisis in Moldova
The project is funded 50 % (EUR 50.000) by the Austrian Development Cooperation and 50% (EUR 50.000) by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BMLFUW).
This project constitutes a coordinated UN response to the request for assistance mady by the Government of Moldova to the UN in July 2007. It aims to address primarily the emergency needs created by the severe drought affecting the country during the summer of 2007 and builds on the findings of a joint FAO /WFP assessment carried out in July and August 2007.
The project includes five key outputs: a) technical expertise, management, coordination; b) emergency procurement of seeds/agricultural supplies; c) emergency assistance to socially vulnerable groups; d) aid monitoring; e) planning for medium and long-term assistance.
The project is managed by UNDP in partnership with FAO, UN Populations Fund , other UN agencies and the Government of Moldova. NGOs and local public authorities are implementing partners of the project.
The total financial needs are estimated at US $ 8,177.720.
