Overall goal


Die Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA) ist eine lokale NRO in der Region Afar in Nord-Ost Äthiopien. APDA bildet mobile Gesundheitsteams, bestehend aus Community Health Worker (CHW - Gesundheitsarbeiter), Women Extension Worker (WEW- mobile Sozialarbeiterin) und Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA - traditionelle Geburtshelferin), für die Arbeit mit der nomadischen Bevölkerung aus.

In vorliegendem Projekt wird die Arbeit von 24 der etwa 50 WEW finanziell unterstützt, dazu kommen noch Ausrüstung- und Trainingskosten. Die WEW unterrichten nomadische Afarfrauen in Hygiene und Ernährungslehre, bilden traditionelle Geburtshelferinnen aus und überwachen deren Arbeit, und klären die Menschen über die negativen Folgen der weiblichen Genitalbeschneidung (female genital mutilation, FGM) und anderer schädlicher traditioneller Praktiken auf. Zusätzlich unterstützt das Projekt Dorfseminare zur Bekämpfung von FGM und von anderen schädlichen traditionellen Praktiken.

Die Arbeit der WEW führt zu direkten Verbesserungen im Gesundheitszustand der betreuten Familien, hilft die Mütter- und Kindersterblichkeit einzudämmen, den allgemeinen Wissensstand zu Gesundheitsfragen und Ernährung zu verbessern und hat Vorbildwirkung zur Rolle der Frau in den betroffenen Gebieten.

  • Type of Aid – Aid modalities: classifies transfers from the donor to the first recipient of funds such as budget support, core contributions and pooled programmes and funds to CSOs and multilateral organisations, project-type interventions, experts and other technical assistance, scholarships and student costs in donor countries, debt relief, administrative costs and other in-donor expenditures.
