Nigeria ist mit mehr als 150 Mio Einwohnern der bevölkerungsreichste Staat Afrikas. Das Land weist den kleinsten Produktionssektor unter den großen Volkswirtschaften weltweit und starke Abhängigkeit von Ölexporten auf. Dadurch besteht ein dringender Bedarf, die Wirtschaft zu diversifizieren.

Unilever ist einer der größten Produzenten von Konsumgütern weltweit. Der Konzern beschäftigt rund 160.000 MitarbeiterInnen und verkauft seine Artikel in 170 Länder weltweit. Von 2007 bis 2009 kooperierte Unilever mit der ADA zur Umsetzung des Projektes "Profitable Rural Allanblackia Development" (Projekt Nummer 2550-13/2006), in Tanzania und Ghana. Eine Lieferkette für wild wachsende Allanblackia Bäume wurde aufgebaut. Da die Produktionsvolumina gering sind, soll nun verstärkt in Aufforstung investiert werden. Zur Umsetzung der Pilotmaßnahme wurde Nigeria gewählt. Es werden Baumschulen und Demonstrationsfelder eingerichtet und Allanblackia Kultivierung in bestehende kleinbäuerliche Landwirtschaften integriert. Ziel ist die Durchführung einer Kosten-Nutzen Analyse für die Allanblackia Bewirtschaftung.

Die Wirtschaftspartnerschaft trägt zur Steigerung des Einkommens der Bäuerinnen bei. Es werden 16 neue Arbeitsplätze geschaffen und 100 BäuerInnen erhalten 50 ha Land für Pflanzaktivitäten. Insgesamt bekommen 250 KleinbäuerInnen Pflanzmaterial und werden im Zuge des Projektes trainiert.
