Das Filmprojekt behandelt am Beispiel des sufistischen Islam im Senegal Überschneidungen zwischen den Bereichen Religion und Entwicklungspolitik. Im Mittelpunkt steht der jährlich stattfindende Magal in Touba, der heiligen Stadt der Mouriden. Dieses mehrtägige religiöse Festival wird oftmals als afrikanisches Pendant zum jährlichen Hajj nach Mecca beschrieben. Von diesem weicht es aber durch seine populäre Ausrichtung ab, die auch Elemente der Unterhaltung und Erholung beinhaltet. In diesem Sinn steht es in einem Spannungsverhältnis zu orthodoxen Auslegungen des Islam. Dabei exponieren sich besonders die Baye Fall als –Ordnungskräfte-, die durch ihre musikalischen Botschafter, allen voran Weltstar Youssou N’Dour, dem derzeitigen Kultur- und Wirtschaftsminister Senegals, sowie Cheikh Lo und anderen KünstlerInnen international bekannt sind. Der Film untersucht, inwieweit in den ethisch-religiösen Nachhaltigkeitskonzepten auch ein möglicher Ansatzpunkt für die Lösung der bestehenden wirtschaftlichen und sozialpolitischen Probleme des Senegal liegt. Es bestehen Anknüpfungspunkte zu Entwicklungsprojekten, die von der Österreichischen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit unterstützt wurden. Dabei ist besonders das ECOPOLE Projekt in Xadim Rasul in Dakar zu erwähnen, das sich auf die Produktion von Recyclingprodukten spezialisiert hat und zahlreichen Jugendlichen dieses von hoher Armutsrate und Arbeitslosigkeit geprägten Viertels Ausbildungsmöglichkeiten eröffnet hat.

Das Projekt wird aus OEZA-Mitteln in der Höhe von insgesamt Euro 6.000,00 (50 % des Gesamtprojektvolumens) gefördert.
