Overall goal


Animal disease control and development of good animal husbandry practices are of high importance in Armenia and Georgia. New Farm and Veterinary Service Centers (FVSCs) have already been set up in phase I of the project.


The overarching long-term goal of the project phase II is the improvement of animal health and productivity in Armenia and Georgia. The purpose of the Project is to improve animal health management system and breeding in Armenia and Georgia. The three objectives of the project are: 1) Improved animal health regulatory framework at policy level and effective application of that framework; 2) Improved practices and capacities of farmers and veterinarians through development of FVSCs to better provide veterinary services and control animal diseases; 3) Improved/proper animal breeding practices contributing to animal genetics and farm income.


A total of 20,500 rural households comprise the primary target audience. Project direct beneficiaries include commercial farmers (130), public veterinarians (160), and veterinary experts/heads of FVSCs (14). CARD will continue supporting 2 FVSCs already established in Georgia during Phase I and 10 FVSCs in Armenia (the latter to be established till the end of 2015 by other CARD Partners). In addition, CARD will establish 1 new Center for cattle and pig genetic in Armenia, and provide trainings and capacity building to the animal health and breeding staff of the «Agroservice-Center» in Ajara, Georgia. On regulatory level CARD will facilitate development of infectious disease management master plans, SOPs, as well as will support their enforcement through NWGs. Finally, the lobbing-capacity of animal breeders and veterinarians will be developed through establishment of Veterinarian and Genetics Associations.

  • Tied/Untied: Untied aid is defined as loans and grants whose proceeds are fully and freely available to finance procurement from all OECD countries and substantially all developing countries.
