Overall goal


Die Österreichische Orient Gesellschaft (ÖOG) pflegt die Kontakte zwischen Österreich und den Ländern des islamischen Orients, informiert über Einrichtungen und Entwicklungen in Nordafrika, dem Nahen und Mittleren Osten, in den Ländern Zentralasiens und Südkaukasiens, betreut Studierende aus diesen Ländern und bemüht sich, den interkulturellen Dialog zu vertiefen. In der Orient-Akademie wird eine Reihe von Vorträgen und Vorlesungen, Symposien und Arbeitskreisen zur Orient- und Islamkunde angeboten.


In Kooperation mit dem Kuratorium für Journalistenausbildung bietet die ÖOG vier Kompaktseminare für JournalistInnen an. Ziel dieses Weiterbildungsprogramms ist es, eine reflektierte und fundierte Berichterstattung zu fördern, da es zur arabisch-islamischen Welt zum Teil wenig fundierte Kenntnisse der Region bzw. des Islam zeigt, so werden gesellschaftliche und politische Probleme häufig als Religions- oder Kulturkonflikte beschrieben. Ausgehend von vielen Nachfragen von JournalistInnen und der als nicht richtig und teilweise unqualifiziert erachteten Medienberichterstattung über Entwicklungen und Einrichtungen im islamischen Orient hat die ÖOG ein Weiterbildungsangebot für die Zielgruppe Journalistinnen entworfen. Die vom BMaA in Kooperation mit der ÖOG durchgeführte große Konferenz "Islam in a pluralistic world" im November 2005 hat großes mediales Interesse gefunden. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass die ÖOG damit ihre Kontakte zu Medien stärken könnte, ihre fachliche Kompetenz anerkannt wird und so auch für das vorliegende Projekt wiederum die positiven Voraussetzungen verstärkt werden konnten.


Das Projekt wird aus OEZA Mitteln in der Höhe von Euro 10.000 (82,61 % des Gesamtprojektvolumens) gefördert.

  • Type of Aid – Aid modalities: classifies transfers from the donor to the first recipient of funds such as budget support, core contributions and pooled programmes and funds to CSOs and multilateral organisations, project-type interventions, experts and other technical assistance, scholarships and student costs in donor countries, debt relief, administrative costs and other in-donor expenditures.
  • Purpose/ sector code: classifies the specific area of the recipient’s economic or social structure, funded by a bilateral contribution.
  • Tied/Untied: Untied aid is defined as loans and grants whose proceeds are fully and freely available to finance procurement from all OECD countries and substantially all developing countries. Transactions are considered tied unless the donor has, at the time of the aid offer, clearly specified a range of countries eligible for procurement which meets the tests for “untied” aid.
