Overall goal


Oberziel dieses Projekt ist, den Beitrag von Forschung und Technologie zur Entwicklung in Ostafrika zu verbessern und effektiver zu gestalten. Dies soll durch die Initiierung eines Kommunikations- und Kooperationsprozesses von regionalen und internationalen Forschungseinrichtungen mit allen relevanten Stakeholdern erreicht werden. Regionale Forschungsaktivitäten und technologische Entwicklungen sollen bedarfsorientiert und in Richtung Armutsminderung, zur besseren Integration von Theorie und Praxis, gebündelt werden. Thematisch wird auf die nachhaltige Nutzung von Binnengewässer und Wasserressourcenmanagment in Ostafrika fokussiert (Trinkwasser, Fischerei, Biodiversität/Tourismus, Energiegewinnung, Bewässerung/Landwirtschaft, Landnutzung-Abwasser-Wasserverschmutzung).


Im Rahmen eines 5-tägigen Workshop mit ca. 150 TeilnehmerInnen wird eine Dialog-Plattform zur Zusammenarbeit aller Beteiligten und Zielgruppen (Forschungsinstitutionen und -zentren, Projektverantwortliche, Endverbraucher, lokale Gemeinden, NGOs, politische EntscheidungsträgerInnen, internationale Geber) in Ostafrika geschaffen. Im intensiven Dialog sollen innovative Lösungsansätze zu folgende Themenbereichen ausgearbeitet werden:

" Formulierung und Durchführung von konkreten Projekten/Programmen zur nachhaltigen Nutzung von Gewässer- und Wasserressourcen

" Strategien zur Bündelung von Forschung, Technologie und Entwicklung in Richtung Armutsminderung

" Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der ostafrikanischen Forschungs- and Entwicklungspolitik

Eine umfassende Nachbearbeitungsphase rundet das Projekt ab.


Die Projektdurchführung erfolgt durch die East Africa Water Association (EAWA), Egerton University (Kenia), das Institut für Limnologie der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und die African Water Facility.

  • Type of Aid – Aid modalities: classifies transfers from the donor to the first recipient of funds such as budget support, core contributions and pooled programmes and funds to CSOs and multilateral organisations, project-type interventions, experts and other technical assistance, scholarships and student costs in donor countries, debt relief, administrative costs and other in-donor expenditures.
  • Purpose/ sector code: classifies the specific area of the recipient’s economic or social structure, funded by a bilateral contribution.
  • Tied/Untied: Untied aid is defined as loans and grants whose proceeds are fully and freely available to finance procurement from all OECD countries and substantially all developing countries. Transactions are considered tied unless the donor has, at the time of the aid offer, clearly specified a range of countries eligible for procurement which meets the tests for “untied” aid.
