Overall goal


Sri Lanka befindet sich nach einem dreißig Jahre andauernden ethnischen Konflikt sowie dem Tsunami in einer Wiederaufbauphase. Trotz soliden Wirtschaftswachstums leben weiterhin rund 35% der Bevölkerung unter der Armutsgrenze, wobei die Zielregion des Projekts, Monaragala, und das Dorf Kotiyagala besonders benachteiligt sind. Letzteres war durch ein Massaker während des Konflikts zwischen Tamilen und Singhalesen stark betroffen.

Die Wirtschaftspartnerschaft zielt darauf ab, dem Dorf und der Region eine konkrete wirtschaftliche Perspektive zu bieten, indem der Anbau, die Verarbeitung und der weltweite Verkauf von Papaya und anderen Früchten ausgebaut und gestärkt werden. In bereits laufenden Aktivitäten wurden Plantagen unter der Obhut von Frauen-Kooperativen geschaffen und durch eine Investition des lokalen Partnerunternehmens Pure Nature eine Fabrik zur Herstellung von biologischen Fruchtpürees errichtet. Um das gesamte Produktionspotenzial von über zwei Millionen Tonnen Früchten auch nutzen zu können, bedarf es jedoch entsprechender Maßnahmen im Bereich des weltweiten Marketing für die hochwertigen Erzeugnisse.

Gerade hier setzt die Wirtschaftspartnerschaft des österreichischen Unternehmens Botanical Products an, das sich am lokalen Partnerunternehmen beteiligen, das Papaya-Püree vor Ort zu einem Nahrungsmittelzusatz veredeln, und die gesamte Produktion weltweit vermarkten wird. Damit wird eine komplette Lieferkette geschaffen und gesichert, die den beteiligten Familien eine Einkommenssteigerung um bis zu 400% und die Schaffung von rund 100 Arbeitsplätzen in der Fabrik ermöglicht. Abgerundet wird das Projekt durch eine Fairtrade-Zertifizierung, die sicherstellen wird, dass Arbeits- und Entgeltbedingungen tatsächlich fair sind. Letztlich profitiert Sri Lanka von der Einführung eines hochwertigen innovativen Handelsguts und Deviseneinkünften.
