Contribution to ICRC Budget Extension Appeal Pakistan
Short Description:
Overall goal
Pakistan is facing a humanitarian crisis of an unprecedented magnitude in geographical terms - the inundations of more than a third of the country since end-July 2010 has come on top of already large-scale displacement of civilians particularly in Balochistan, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Paktunkhwa (KP).
In response to this crisis, the ICRC has expanded its activities in Pakistan and on 31 August 2010 launched a "Budget-Extension Appeal", to which this grant contributes.
Relief activities in response to the floods aim to support up to 350,000 people (50,000 households) in some of the most affected regions of the country, including the most affected districts of Balochistan, FATA, and KP in the areas of:
Relief items: provision of food rations, essential household items, including when necessary mosquito nets;
Livelihoods: provision of seeds, fertilizer and tools to enable people to resume basic livelihood activities;
Health: improved access to health care, with a particular focus on water-borne infectious diseases, mother and child health and vaccination, and strengthening the referral system for patients who need hospital care;
Water and habitat: provision of emergency shelter kits or tents and ensuring access to safe drinking water through the distribution of 35,000 water filters, water trucking or the cleaning and repair of water points and irrigation systems.
