Contribution to PEGASE 2013
Short Description:
Overall goal
The PEGASE Mechanism (Mécanisme ‘Palestino-Européen de Gestion et d'Aide Socio-Economique') is the European Mechanism designed to assist the Palestinian Authority in its reform and development agenda by facilitating and supporting reforms and economic development.
In keeping with the period covered by the PRDP, PEGASE was originally designed for the years 2008-2010. Since 2011, it supports the current “Palestinian National Plan (PNP) 2011-2013”.
PEGASE is designed to support the Reform and Development Agenda of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in its four main sectors of a) governance, b) social development, c) economic and private sector development and d) public infrastructure development.
Austria has been contributing to the social development component of PEGASE since 2008, with its grants going towards direct financial support to vulnerable Palestinian families in the West Bank and Gaza. The objective of this activity is to ensure the continued assistance to poor and vulnerable Palestinian families dependent on financial aid from the Palestinian Authority (PA) administration. This activity reinforces the social protection system and improves PA public finances in that it provides allowances to families who are beneficiaries of the Ministry of Social Affairs’ (MoSA) cash support programme.
The current grant is a continuation of this support to the Palestinian Social Protection System.
