Short Description:

Overall goal

ECDPM's 2017-2021 strategy intends to promote effective international cooperation that

can address key European and global development challenges and generate inclusive

and sustainable solutions. The work focuses on informing and influencing policies and

helping to forge partnerships. In terms of geographic concentration, an important part of

ECDPM’s engagement concerns EU-Africa and EU-ACP relations

ECDPM works in four major areas of transformation which are vital for progress on the global development agenda and will play a major role in Africa-Europe relations:

- effective international cooperation frameworks and tools for tackling global challenges;

- legitimate and accountable public institutions and engaged societies;

- peaceful societies based on the rule of law, social cohesion and human dignity; and

- sustainable economic transformation with shared prosperity and decent jobs.

In these areas, ECDPM is aiming at the following outcomes/objectives:

1. inclusive dialogues and processes

2. coherent and integrated policies

3. reduced policy/implementation gap

4. empowered institutions and actors

5. effective multi-actor partnerships

Expected results

In order to achieve its objectives, ECDPM will deliver the following outputs/results:

1. Evidence-based and practical knowledge

2. Improved access to and use of knowledge

3. Innovative frameworks, practices, tools and methods

Target group / Beneficiaries

The target group comprises EU institutions and actors involved in international cooperation, African Union and regional economic communities, state institutions and subnational authorities at various levels, Civil society and citizen movements and the private sector. The number of direct beneficiaries, who have subscribed to ECDPM magazines and newsletters and who follow ECDPM on social media is 30,470.

With a funding core contribution of 1.6% to ECDPM's budget approximately 500 direct beneficiaries can be attributed to ADA's support.

Activities

ECDPM’s activities are mainly:

- Research and analysis: generating thorough policy research, sharp analysis and fresh ideas.

- Advice and training: giving practical policy advice, providing training and support.

- Events: organising of and giving input at debates, conferences and workshops.

- Partnerships and dialogue: connecting people, brokering partnerships and spaces for dialogue.

- Expert information: providing background information to partners and the media.

Context

The European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) is an independent “think and do tank” with an annual budget of EUR 7-8 million that links policy to practice in development. ECDPM can count on the trust of a broad range of official and non-official actors and stakeholders in the developing world, in Europe and at global level. It is recognised as a source of reliable information and prospective policy relevant analysis and as an independent broker in strategic policy and change processes. The Centre’s Strategy 2017-2021 is implemented in the context of the Agenda 2030.
