EDI plus - Empowerment of Kosovo minorities through Education, Dialogue and Involvement in decision-making processes
Short Description:
Overall goal
The main aim of the project is to enhance the inclusion of minority communities and groups/people with fewer opportunities in Kosovo through quality education and social cohesion. Building on the successes and achievements in regard of social cohesion and education for minority communities, the project will aim to capitalise on the strong foundations created by placing institutionalisation and advocacy at the heart of the consortium’s efforts.
Expected results
1) Enhanced LC and sports programs contribute to an increased quality of education and social cohesion for girls and boys in five target localities;
2) Teachers, LC staff and volunteers are better qualified, dedicated and motivated to provide inclusive and quality education;
3) Three LCs are officially registered and prepared to be financially sustainable and active beyond the end of the project.
Target group / Beneficiaries
The project targets five localities where minority communities are more concentrated: Fushë Kosovë / Kosovo Polje, Janjevë/o, Plemetin/a, Shtime / Štimlje and Graçanicë / Gra?anica. There will be 1,535 direct beneficiaries. All beneficiary groups of the project will have a strong gender balance of at least 50% women and girls:
? 1,000 girls and boys (50% girls) in need of academic support will attend learning programs and regular socio-sport activities.
? 110 girls and boys either diagnosed with disabilities or experiencing learning difficulties will benefit from learning opportunities.
? 315 men and women will benefit from interventions such as literacy and numeracy classes, medical awareness raising and bursaries.
? 110 youth volunteers (aged 15-30) will benefit from capacity development and work experience opportunities enabling them to become active change makers in their community.
Activities
Activities include:
*) Aligning of curricula with the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) curriculum
*) Educational support (in particular in Mathematics, Languages, Arts, Science as well as Socio-Emotional Support) and inclusive sports activities for children
*) Literacy and numeracy classes, health education especially for mothers and other women
*) Establishment of digital libraries in 4 LCs to provide boys and girls the opportunity to participate in digital classes due to COVID-19 restrictions.
*) Train youth volunteers to run inclusive regular sports activities
*) Advocacy for the inclusion of the LC in the municipal annual budget planning as well as for financial support from MES.
Context
Society and institutions in Kosovo, even two decades after the conflict, are struggling to build a sustainable platform for development and inclusion of marginalized groups. The continuous reports and surveys reveal results on social exclusion and lack of economic inclusion of marginalized communities in Kosovo. Women and girls from minority communities and with disabilities continue to face double discrimination, including towards accessing and reaping the benefits of education.
