Overall goal


Mit dem Projekt ,From Darkness‘ realisiert der Kulturverein gold extra ein interaktives Computerspiel, das an die Ursachen von Flucht und Vertreibung auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent heranführt.


Hauptthemen sind die politische und soziale Situation in der Region der Afrikanischen Großen Seen, globale Zusammenhänge von Ressourcen und Konflikten, Ursachen und Folgen der Krisen in der Region, sowie die damit verbundene Flüchtlingsproblematik.

Das Spiel thematisiert insbesondere Wechselverhältnisse europäischer und afrikanischer Perspektiven. Dabei wird die ‚K-Falle‘ vermieden und die Interviewpartner nicht ausschließlich vor dem Hintergrund von Katastrophen, Kriegen, Krankheiten präsentiert, sondern das Beziehungsgeflecht wirtschaftlicher und persönlicher Verhältnisse im rohstoffreichen Ostafrika (Great Lake Region) aufgezeigt.


From Darkness soll mit der Montage von dokumentarischem Material und fiktionaler Spielhandlung, die interaktiv und partizipatorisch erfahren werden kann, Neuland im Bereich der Serious Games betreten. Durch die partizipative Möglichkeit eines Computerspiels erfahren die UserInnen, wie sich ihre eigene Aktion bzw. Reaktion auf diverse Situationen im Spiel auswirken können. Durch intensive Recherche und Dokumentation wird das Spiel der Realität angeglichen.


Zielgruppe sind einerseits die Spieler Community, andererseits Kunstinteressierte, SchülerInnen und Medienschaffende. Das Spiel wird zum gratis Download im Internet zur Verfügung stehen.

Die Recherche- und Konzeptionsphase des Projekts wurde mit dem Salzburger Landespreis für Medienkunst ausgezeichnet.


Das Projekt wird bei einem Gesamtprojektvolumen von Euro 141.100.- in der Höhe von Euro 50.000,- (35,44%) gefördert.
