Humanitarian Response to people affected by the food crisis in Kaya and Koupela, Burkina Faso - with a special focus on disabilities
Short Description:
Overall goal
In response to the current food security crisis in Burkina Faso, Light for the World, together with the local project partner the OCADES-Caritas based in Ouagadougou, has developed an initiative with the objective to contribute to food security of the most vulnerable households threatened by hunger and malnutrition in two dioceses of Burkina Faso by immediate response and preventive measures to strengthen their agricultural capacities, and to build up capacities to include people with disabilities into emergency response. In total the project intends to reach 7.390 vulnerable people at risk of malnutrition that might cause disabilities and other famine related illnesses.
The results the project aims to achieve are:
1: 858 vulnerable households including 600 children and 783 persons living with disabilities received food aid
2: 386 households strengthened their capacity in agriculture and improved their own food security
3: The project partner and its national network has developed considerable experience & capacity to include persons with disabilities in emergency situations
4: Awareness raised to promote disability mainstreaming in food security and emergency response in national committees & the national food security council.
This initiative is financed by funds from the Austrian Foreign Disaster Aid Fund.
