Overall goal



ICIMOD wurde 1984 in Kathmandu von Staaten der Region Himalaya-Hindukush (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Indien, Myanmar, Nepal und Pakistan) gegründet. Es sollte damit eine Institution geschaffen werden, die die Kooperation in der Region stärkt, die Lebensbedingungen der Bewohner erleichtert und einen nachhaltigen Schutz der Umwelt gewährleistet.


ICIMOD ist die einzige regionale Organisation in der HKH Region welche sich mit den spezifischen Problemen der Bergregionen seiner regionalen Mitgliedsstaaten auseinandersetzt und ist im Spannungsbereich zwischen Forschung, angewandter Forschung und Armutsreduktion durch Projekte anzusiedeln.


Österreich unterstützt gemeinsam mit Finnland, Deutschland, den Niederlanden, Norwegen, Schweden und der Schweiz Projekte und Programme von ICIMOD und trägt darüber hinaus auch durch ungebundene Beiträge zum Bestand der Organisation bei.


Im Zeitraum 2008 bis 2009 wird die Österreichische Entwicklungszusammenarbeit (ÖEZA) ICIMOD mit einem ungebundenen Beitrag von Euro 102.000,- pro Jahr unterstützen, das sind circa rund fünf Prozent der Gemeinkosten des Zentrums. Zusätzlich ist ein Beitrag von 30.000 Euro für eine 2008 dringend benötigte Evaluierung eines von Österreich finanzierten Projektes in diesem Vertrag inkludiert.

  • Type of Aid – Aid modalities: classifies transfers from the donor to the first recipient of funds such as budget support, core contributions and pooled programmes and funds to CSOs and multilateral organisations, project-type interventions, experts and other technical assistance, scholarships and student costs in donor countries, debt relief, administrative costs and other in-donor expenditures.
  • Purpose/ sector code: classifies the specific area of the recipient’s economic or social structure, funded by a bilateral contribution.
  • Tied/Untied: Untied aid is defined as loans and grants whose proceeds are fully and freely available to finance procurement from all OECD countries and substantially all developing countries. Transactions are considered tied unless the donor has, at the time of the aid offer, clearly specified a range of countries eligible for procurement which meets the tests for “untied” aid.
