Das Projektgebiet dieses bereits seit fünf Jahren erfolgreich laufenden Viehzuchtprojektes liegt in der Provinz Amhara in Nordäthiopien. Die Menschen in dieser Provinz sind Kleinbauern, deren Lebenslage sich durch massive Bodenerosion und Überbevölkerung in den letzten Jahrzehnten radikal verschlechtert hat. Um die Einkommenssituation und damit die Lebensqualität der bäuerlichen Familien anzuheben, konzentriert sich das Projekt auf Maßnahmen, die die Produktivität der Viehhaltung verbessern und so den Menschen besseres Einkommen ermöglichen. Dies wird durch eine Kombination von Zucht- und Mastprogrammen für Rinder und Schafe, veterinärmedizinische Versorgung, Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Weidequalität und der Futterproduktion sowie Anleitungen zur Milchvermarktung erreicht. Ergänzend dazu werden verschiedene Aus- und Weiterbildungbildungsmöglichkeiten für die betroffenen Bauern und für Mitarbeiter der lokalen Behörden, die für die Durchführung des Projektes verantwortlich sind, angeboten.

Bisherige Ergebnisse der Phasen I und II waren sehr ermutigend und haben gezeigt, dass auch mit einfachen Methoden wesentliche Verbesserungen erzielt werden können. Die Phase II ist in drei Unterprojekte aufgeteilt, das hier vorliegende Vorhaben stellt die dritte Teilphase (Phase II c) dar.
