Overall goal


Das HIV-Projekt wird in der Umgebung von Emali in Kenia umgesetzt. Emali liegt direkt an der Hauptstraße zwischen Nairobi und Mombasa ca. 80km nördlich des Kilimandscharo in einer sehr trockenen Gegend. Der Verein Daraja, das bedeutet Brücke auf Kisuaheli, unterstützt seit längerem die lokale, gemeinschaftlich orientierte Organisation Mt. Zion. Die Zusammenarbeit ermöglicht die Umsetzung eines mehrstufigen Programms zur HIV-Prävention und Unterstützung für HIV-infizierte Menschen.


Die Bildung von Selbsthilfegruppen, Durchführung von Trainings und die Vergabe von Mikrokrediten verbessert die Lebenssituation und den Wissensstand HIV-infizierter Menschen und soll die weitere Verbreitung des Virus eindämmen. Das Konzept wird nun erstmals auf die teilweise weit abgelegen lebende Volksgruppe der Masaai ausgedehnt. Um dies zu ermöglichen bedarf es der Bereitstellung von lokalem Personal (Sozialarbeiter, Krankenpfleger) und der Finanzierung von Trainings.


Durch das Projekt werden 25-40 neue Mitglieder in Selbsthilfegruppen miteinbezogen. Dabei werden die KlientInnen, ähnlich den Mitgliedern bereits bestehender Selbsthilfegruppen, in gesundheitsbezogenen und psychosozialen Fragen begleitet (mindestens ein Gruppentreffen pro Woche) und ihre wirtschaftlichen Fähigkeiten werden in Form von Weiterbildungsmaßnahmen gestärkt.


Die durch dieses Projekt erreichten KlientInnen - vor allem Frauen - können an bereits bestehenden Programmen zur Alphabetisierung, HIV-Medikation, Gesundheitsbehandlung und Peer Education teilnehmen, welche von Daraja und Mt. Zion dauerhaft angeboten werden. Ebenso wird die Vergabe und Rückzahlung von Mikrokrediten an die Selbsthilfegruppen, sowie die Nachbetreuung oder Ergänzung der Trainingsaktivitäten der Selbsthilfegruppen organisiert. Dies sichert den dauerhaften und nachhaltigen Erfolg der Expansion.
