Die nicaraguanischen KakaoproduzentInnen erleiden Ernteverluste und Qualitätseinbußen durch den Beifall der Kakaopflanzen mit den Pilzen moniliophthora roreri und phytophthora palmivora. Das vorliegende Projekt ist deshalb eine wichtige flankierende Maßnahme zur Unterstützung der kleinbäuerlichen KakaoproduzentInnen in den laufenden OEZA-Vorhaben zur Förderung des biologischem Kakaoanbaus in Nicaragua (OEZA-Projekte Nr. 2623-00/2009 und 2627-00/2009).


Projektziel: Kleinbäuerlichen ProduzentInnen können die Ernteerträge aus dem Kakaoanbau durch die Nutzung widerstandfähiger Kakaosorten erhöhen.

Zielgruppe dieses Projektes sind 272 kleinbäuerliche Familien, die in den Gemeinden Nueva Guinea, Muelle de los Bueyes und El Rama im Südosten Nicaraguas Kakaoanbau betreiben.


Aktivitäten des Projektes:

a) Einrichtung eines 21. ha. großen Zuchtgartens mit widerstandsfähigen Pflanzensorten basierend auf langjährigen wissenschaftlichen Forschungsergebnissen. Die von Projektträger CATIE gezüchtete Kakaosorten (sexuelle Kreuzungen und Auswahl der am besten geeigneten Pflanzen) stehen den lokalen ProduzentInnen zur Verfügung. Die Anpassung der Pflanzensorten an die vorhandenen lokalen Bedingungen wird beobachtet und statistisch ausgewertet, um die optimale Nutzung dieser Sorten sicher zu stellen.


b) Ausbildung von Technikern und Landwirten zur Verbreitung des Wissens über Pflanztechniken, Transplantation und Veredelungen der existierenden Plantagen sowie über das Management eines Zuchtgartens
