Overall goal


Das Projektgebiet befindet sich in Ada Berga im Bundesstaat Oromia, cirka 80 km nordwestlich von Addis Ababa in Äthiopien. Nahrungsmittelproduktion und Erwerb des Lebensunterhaltes sind in dieser Region so schwierig, dass in den letzten Jahren oftmalig Hungerkatastrophen mit nationaler und internationaler Lebensmittelhilfe gelindert wurden.

Das Projektziel ist eine Erhöhung der Nahrungsmittelsicherheit und Schaffung von Einkommensquellen für die Zielgruppe, um Gefährdung durch menschliche und natürliche Katastrophen und Abhängigkeit von Lebensmittelhilfe zu reduzieren. Die Hauptaktivitäten, um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, beinhalten Maßnahmen zur Sanierung der Umwelt, Einsatz von dürreresistentem Saatgut, Verbesserung der Veterinärmedizinischen Versorgung der Nutztiere und Schaffung von neuen Einkommensquellen.

Angesichts der derzeitigen weltweiten Lebensmittelkrise erhalten diese subsistenzfördernden Maßnahmen eine besondere Bedeutung und in einem Umfeld, in dem ökologisches Denken bis jetzt sekundär war, wird das Bewusstsein für nachhaltige Landwirtschaft und somit Erhaltung der natürlichen Umwelt gestärkt.

Die Zielgruppe des Projektes ist die am meisten gefährdete Bevölkerung des Flachlandes und Mittelgebirges sowie Familien ohne Landbesitz und Familien, denen Frauen vorstehen. Geschätzte 12.000 Personen sollen von dem Projekt profitieren. Weitere Zielgruppen sind die relevanten lokalen Regierungsstellen, mit denen entsprechende Vereinbarungen abgeschlossen werden, um deren Mitarbeit und Untersützung zu garantieren.
