Overall goal


Mattersburger Kreis und ÖFSE haben 2004 gemeinsam das Paulo Freire Zentrum, ein Zentrum für transdisziplinäre Entwicklungsforschung und Bildung, gegründet. Mit dem Paulo Freire Zentrum ist ein öffentlicher Raum für die Reflexion entwicklungspolitischer Praxis sowie die Verbindung von Wissenschaft und Praxis geschaffen. Die Träger des Zentrums möchten damit Forschung und Bildung zu Kernfragen der OEZA aufbauend auf einem dialogischen Grundprinzip stärken.

Das Paulo Freire Zentrum will das Denken Paolo Freires bekannter machen, seine Aktualität kritisch hinterfragen sowie Perspektiven für politische Erwachsenenbildung diskutieren.


2006 wird im Themenschwerpunkt "Paolo Freire und politische Bildung" u. a. ein internationales Symposium zu "Freire heute" organisiert. Dieser Themenschwerpunkt wird zur weiteren inhaltlichen Profilierung des PFZ beitragen und gleichzeitig wichtige Impulse für die Entwicklungspädagogik und entwicklungspolitische Erwachsenenbildung in Österreich geben.

Weitere Veranstaltungen setzen sich mit wichtigen Impulsen für die entwicklungspolitische Praxis auseinander (Thematisierung des Begriffs Entwicklung; Ökonomisierung der Bildung; Kooperation mit der Ringvorlesung "Mythen der Ökonomie"). Die Methode Lesekreise wird weiterentwickelt. Weiters wird das Paolo Freire Zentrum 2006 den Reflexionsprozess zu den bisherigen 3 Entwicklungstagungen sowie die Entwicklung zukünftiger Perspektiven dafür steuern.

Ein weiterer Aufgabenbereich des Zentrums ist die Förderung junger WissenschafterInnen und Studierender, die dort eine Anlaufstelle für verschiedene auf Entwicklungspolitik bezogene Anfragen und Praktika finden.

Ein regelmäßiger Newsletter trägt zur Informationsvermittlung bei.


Die zentrale Zielgruppe sind Studierende, MultiplikatorInnen in der entwicklungspolitischen Bildungsarbeit sowie MitarbeiterInnen in EZA-Organisationen.


Das Projekt wird bei einem Gesamtprojektvolumen von EUR 72.173,- in der Höhe von

EUR 67.000,- ( 92,83 %) gefördert.

  • Type of Aid – Aid modalities: classifies transfers from the donor to the first recipient of funds such as budget support, core contributions and pooled programmes and funds to CSOs and multilateral organisations, project-type interventions, experts and other technical assistance, scholarships and student costs in donor countries, debt relief, administrative costs and other in-donor expenditures.
  • Purpose/ sector code: classifies the specific area of the recipient’s economic or social structure, funded by a bilateral contribution.
  • Tied/Untied: Untied aid is defined as loans and grants whose proceeds are fully and freely available to finance procurement from all OECD countries and substantially all developing countries. Transactions are considered tied unless the donor has, at the time of the aid offer, clearly specified a range of countries eligible for procurement which meets the tests for “untied” aid.
