Short Description:

Overall goal


The overall project goal is to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of Syrian refugee households classified as severely and highly vulnerable as a result of the ongoing refugee crisis and adverse weather conditions during winter in Bekaa, Lebanon.


Expected results


By the end of the project, 315 vulnerable Syrian refugee households affected by the refugee crisis and adverse weather conditions in Bekaa are provided with equitable, unconditional, regular winterization cash assistance.


Target group / Beneficiaries


The proposed intervention is implemented by World Vision Lebanon and benefits approximately 315 families or 2.205 individuals (1.389 below the age of 18). The project prioritizes households located above 500m altitude as these are hardest hit by the harsh winter conditions.


Activities


The project goal is achieved through the following main activities: information sessions for target households, provision of monetized winterization assistance of EUR 100 (USD 147) per month for a period of four months, as recommended by UNHCR and ATM Cards Management (including listing and checking of recipients and follow-up on bank and/or beneficiary issues and complaints).


Context


The Syrian crisis has led to the displacement of more than 1 million Syrian refugees into Lebanon, over half of whom are children. Many refugees from Syria were already socio-economically disadvantaged before coming to Lebanon and had few assets or savings to bring with them. Thus, 70% of refugee households live below the poverty line. And their situation significantly worsens over winter, not only due to harsh weather conditions in Bekaa but also due to a lack of income opportunities over the winter months.
