Projects
Relief and Empowerment for Syrian Refugees in Armenia
Short Description:
Overall goal
September 2014 approximately 12.000 Syrian refugees are residing in Armenia. The situation for the majority of refugees has deteriorated over the last months as their assets are fully depleted and financial support for the refugees from Syria ceased. The approaching winter further deteriorates the situation of the refugees. The basic needs are:
• lack of sufficient food supplies and difficulties to access urgently needed items for daily use (hygiene supplies, household items, medication);
• lack of affordable and appropriate shelter
• difficulties with children school attendance related to enrolment, cloths, social integration
• difficulties to access to employment opportunities
The objective of the proposed project is to prepare vulnerable Syrian refugees to better cope with their challenging living conditions. The target group are 300 refugee households (with a total of appr. 1200 persons, mostly living in Yerevan and others also in the other 10 regions of Armenia – not in Nagorno Karbakh) that will be supported through
• Provision of urgently needed items to 300 households for daily use including 1800 food parcels, 2100 hygiene parcels and household items according to actual needs
• Provision of vouchers for medication to 300 persons with chronic diseases
• Support to 40 heads of households to build up their livelihood and generate their own income (startup funding for tools and vocational training)
