Die 5. Finanzierungsphase zur Unterstützung der KWAHO Aktivitäten im Bereich Wasser und Siedlungshygiene stellt in den betreffenden Projektregionen Lower Tana (im Küstenbereich Kenias) und Maseno (im Westen Kenias) einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Erreichung des Teilziels 10 im Rahmen der Millenium Development Goals dar.

Ein wesentlicher Fokus in dieser Finanzierungsphase besteht darin, KWAHO gezielt zu stärken und für die Organisation die Grundlage zu schaffen, sich strategisch in die kürzlich beschlossenen Reformprozesse des kenianischen Wassersektors einzuordnen. KWAHO wird einerseits, den im Rahmen ihrer Tätigkeit gegründeten Dachorganisationen von dörflichen Wasserversorgern dazu verhelfen, zu offiziell anerkannten Wasserversorgern im Rahmen der Wasserreform heranzuwachsen, andererseits sich selber dahingehend vorbereiten, künftig Projekte im Rahmen des "Water Service Trust Funds" abzuwickeln.


Zusätzlich soll im Rahmen dieses Vertrages eine weitere Komponente mit dem Titel "Mitigation of Flood Induced Impact on Coastal Water Supply and Sanitation Services" finanziert werden. Dies wird als wesentlicher Beitrag Österreichs zur Linderung der langfristigen Konsequenzen der Tsunamikatastrophe vom Dezember 2004 gesehen.


KWAHO unternimmt besondere Anstrengungen, Frauen nicht nur in wesentliche Entscheidungsprozesse einzubinden, sondern sie ins Zentrum dieser Prozesse zu stellen. Im Bereich Siedlungshygiene wird ein Fokus auf die Förderung von ländlichen Sanitäreinrichtungen gesetzt, die auf den entsprechenden Naturraum abgestimmt sind und somit zum Erhalt der natürlichen Ressourcen beitragen.

  • Type of Aid – Aid modalities: classifies transfers from the donor to the first recipient of funds such as budget support, core contributions and pooled programmes and funds to CSOs and multilateral organisations, project-type interventions, experts and other technical assistance, scholarships and student costs in donor countries, debt relief, administrative costs and other in-donor expenditures.
  • Purpose/ sector code: classifies the specific area of the recipient’s economic or social structure, funded by a bilateral contribution.
  • Tied/Untied: Untied aid is defined as loans and grants whose proceeds are fully and freely available to finance procurement from all OECD countries and substantially all developing countries. Transactions are considered tied unless the donor has, at the time of the aid offer, clearly specified a range of countries eligible for procurement which meets the tests for “untied” aid.
