Overall goal


Nepal gilt aufgrund seiner geographischen Lage als ein von Naturkatastrophen besonders gefährdetes Land, das regelmäßig von verheerenden Überschwemmungen, Muren, Erdbeben, Lawinen, Dürren und Waldbränden heimgesucht wird. Als eines der ärmsten Länder Südasiens, ist die dort lebende Bevölkerung durch Armut, fehlende Infrastruktur, geringes Bildungsniveau, fehlenden Zugang zu Information und dem Mangel an Frühwarnsystemen besonders gefährdet ist. Obwohl einige Fortschritte in Bezug auf Krisenprävention und Katastrophenschutz zu verzeichnen sind, haben insbesondere die Ärmsten der Armen, marginalisierte und sozial ausgeschlossene Gruppen (z.B. Dalits) nach wie vor keinen Zugang zu Präventionsmaßnahmen.


Ziel des Projekts ist es, die Belastbarkeit von Gemeinden in den Distrikten Doti und Kailali in Westnepal zu steigern und den Verlust von Leben und Eigentum insbesondere der besonders armen, marginalisierten und sozial benachteiligten Bevölkerungsteile zu verringern. Dafür werden zwanzig ausgewählte Gemeinden in nachhaltigem Katastrophenschutz gestärkt. Community Based Organisations werden in so genanntem "Disaster Risk Reduction Management" ausgebildet. Die Bevölkerung wird über potenzielle Katastrophen, über "Disaster Preparedness" und "Disaster Risk Reduction" informiert. Dazu werden zum Beispiel auch in Schulen spezielle Propramme angeboten. NGOs und andere relevante Stakeholder werden in Form von Workshops über Community Based Disaster Risk Management sowie über die Möglichkeiten der Minimierung von Katastrophen und Präventionsmaßnahmen informiert.


Das Projekt baut auf dem Vorgängerprojekt 2325-15/2007 auf, Laufzeit 1.10.2007 - 30.6.2009.
