Support to Comprehensive Agricultural Census: Phase 2
Short Description:
Overall goal
After the pilot census in 2014, the second phase supports the implementation of a full scale agricultural census in the Republic of Armenia. The first agricultural census in the Republic of Armenia since its independence (1991) will provide a wealth of new and reliable information to the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Territorial Administration for strategy formulation, policy making and focused action plans. In the first place, the census will enhance the national capacities to produce, analyse and disseminate the relevant and reliable statistical information to the central and local public authorities, scientific-educational and financial organizations, business society, mass media, other national users and international organisations interested in agribusiness promotion, agricultural and rural development, poverty reduction, food security and gender issues.
The project outcomes are: 1) Post-enumeration survey assessing the quality of census data carried out; 2) Agricultural census data processed; 3) Publications with agricultural census results elaborated and disseminated to the larger user community and 4) National capacities for development of agricultural and rural statistics in Armenia enhanced.
The direct project beneficary is the National Statistical Service staff (about 60 persons) at central and regional level. About 340.000 small farms in Armenia would indirectly benefit as the census serves as the basis for improved agricultural policies and farmers assistance. Accompanying measures to the project are supported by FAO and USDA in the framework of ENPARD and USAID technical assistance projects.
