Support to JWSSPS for WSDF Northern Uganda
Short Description:
Overall goal
This project "Support to JWSSPS (Joint Water and Sanitation Sector Programme Support) for WSDF (Water and Sanitation Development Facility) - Northern Uganda" is an increment for the already existing JWSSPS with funds earmarked for Northern Uganda.
The JWSSPS pools funds from various donors in the water sector.
The objective of this facility is 'To support the water sector to improve its fiscal and physical effectiveness so as to more efficiently achieve its targets and contribute to poverty eradication and better health for Ugandans.' This objective is fully aligned to the sector objectives and to pillars 2 and 5 of the Poverty Eradication Action Plan.
Since the JWSSPS/Joint Partnership Fund and its implementation has proven to be successful and as the demand for water and sanitation services is increasing rapidly in the pacified North of Uganda, where IDPs return to their villages and small towns, supplementary funding to the JWSSPS earmarked for Northern Uganda is required.
The expected outcome will be a significant contribution to the achievement of water sector targets in the North of Uganda, increased functionality of facilities, improved sub-sector allocations leading to more equitable distribution of services, increased private sector involvement, improved environmental performance especially related to the adoption of Integrated Water Resource Management, and potentially increased future budget allocations to the sector.
These objectives will be achieved through providing funds and capacity development for the sector at all levels. All support earmarked for Northern Uganda will be managed according to JWSSPS-standards.
