Sustainable Resource Management in North Gonder (Phase 1)
Short Description:
Overall goal
This programme is based on the experiences and achievements of previous ADA funded projects implemented in North Gondar of the Amhara National Regional State in the North of Ethiopia. This integrated intervention includes several new development dimensions like rural administration and action research to further expand the benefits and to link extension, education and research.
The overall objective is to contribute to sustainable rural development and improvement of food security in North Gondar.
The intervention is consistent with and contributes to the overall objectives of the Plan for Accelerated and Sustained Development to End Poverty (PASDEP).
The purpose of the programme is to increase income of households in selected Weredas of the programme area.
Result areas are:
1. market oriented livestock development
2. promotion of integrated watershed management practices
3. identification and promotion of alternative livelihood options
4. community based tourism development
5. enhancement of national park infrastructure and its management
6. strengthening rural land administration
7. strengthening of institutional capacity through action research and knowledge management
Programme management will integrate and accommodate gender and environmental concerns.
Steering committees consisting of various stakeholders will be formed at regional, zonal and Wereda levels. The overall programme coordination will be the responsibility of a Programme Coordination Unit (PCU).
Activities will be planned, implemented and monitored by the benefiting communities.
It is intended to implement this programme over a period of five years (2008 - 2012), but with two financing periods of three (2008 - 2010) and two years (2011 - 2012).
