Overall goal


Seit vielen Jahren leistet die österreichische Entwicklungszusammenarbeit bereits eine erhebliche Unterstützung im Bereich der handwerklichen Ausbildung und Förderung von Kleingewerbebetrieben in Ostafrika, im besonderen in Uganda. Der Markt für industriell produzierte Tischlereiprodukte ist besonders national im Steigen begriffen, dieser Sektor kann sich jedoch dieser Herausforderung noch nicht stellen. Es fehlt an Know-how und Qualität.

Das Ziel dieses Projektes ist die Entwicklung eines Produktionssystems -von Einzelfertigung zur Serienproduktion-, ein Ansatz, den es bis jetzt noch nicht in Uganda gegeben hat. HORIZONT3000 gemeinsam mit Produktionswerkstätten von 3 handwerklichen Lehrwerkstätten (in Kisoro, Kamwenge und Soroti), die seit vielen Jahren bekannt sind, haben eine 2-jährige Pilotphase erfolgreich bis November 2005 implementiert. Während dieser Zeit wurden folgende Aktivitäten durchgeführt: Entwurf und Anpassung von Designs kleiner Holzprodukte, Einführen neuer Produktionsfertigkeiten und -verfahren; Entwicklung von Marketing Strategien; Aus- und Weiterbildung von LehrerInnen und ArbeiterInnen. Dieses Projekt hat unmittelbar zur Armutsbekämpfung beigetragen, in dem nicht nur die genannten Institutionen ihr Einkommen erhöhten sondern Arbeitsplätze geschaffen wurden und somit die Bevölkerung in Konsequenz auch davon profitieren konnte. Zusätzlich hat diese Pilotphase zur finanziellen Nachhaltigkeit der handwerklichen Lehrwerkstätten beigetragen.

Die Pilotphase hat gezeigt, dass dieses Projekt weitergeführt werden sollte. Die erste drei Jahres Phase sollte auf die Errungenschaften der Pilotphase aufbauen und das Projekt stärken. Partner aus dem Privatsektor werden bei größeren Aufträgen herangezogen und sollten den vocational centers helfen mehr kaufmännisches Denken an den Tag zu legen.
