Das Projekt zielt auf die Linderung des psychischen Leids der durch den Tsunami betroffenen Bevölkerung in der Region Ampara in Sri Lanka ab. Die Menschen sollen wieder Zuversicht erlangen, sich in ihrer Umgebung sicher fühlen und ihre Zukunft selbst in die Hand nehmen können, was durch eine langfristige psychosziale Beratung und kontinuierliche Betreuung gewährleistet werden soll. Da die Versorgung in psychologischer, psychotherapeutischer und psychiatrischer Hinsicht in Sri Lanka sehr schlecht ist, und auch das allgemeine Bildungsniveau sehr niedrig ist, werden lokale Beraterinnen und Berater im Rahmen des Projekts ausgebildet. Diese Trainees werden laufend in die Arbeit der Beratung und Betreuung involviert, und übernehmen selbständig Aufgaben. Die Schulung wird einerseits durch lokale TrainerInnen erbracht, andererseits durch internationale ExpertInnen, die herausragende akademische Qualifikationen mitbringen und auch Erfahrung in Trainings, sowie im Umgang mit traumatisierten Menschen haben. Darüberhinaus verfügen die TrainerInnen über langjährige Erfahrung mit Traumatherapie in Sri Lanka. Der externe TrainerInnenpool wird von der Universität Klagenfurt koordiniert, durch welche am Abschluss des Projekts, und damit auch der Ausbildung, ein Diplom an die Trainees vergeben wird.
