Das Fischerdorf Maradana / Banderawatte an der Westküste Sri Lankas, südlich von Colombo, wurde vom Tsunami im Dezember 2004 stark getroffen, 62 Häuser wurden total zerstört, weitere 176 stark beschädigt.

Der Verein Give Hope unterstützt, in Zusammenarbeit mit der Initiative "Nachbar in Not", die Reparatur der beschädigten Häuser.


Der Neubau von Häusern - neben dem Wiederaufbau der vom Tsunami zerstörten Unterkünfte sollen auch bessere Häuser für andere sozial benachteiligte Familien geschaffen werden, um künftigen sozialen Spannungen vorzubeugen - stößt jedoch auf Schwierigkeiten, da keine Häuser mehr unmittelbar an der Küste erichtet werden dürfen. Dementsprechend wurden zwei neue Grundstücke gesucht - eines für den buddhistischen, das andere für den muslimischen Teil des Dorfes - deren Ankauf mit vorliegendem Projekt unterstützt werden soll.
