Short Description:

Overall goal

Komnas Perempuan is an independent Indonesian institution promoting the human rights of women by working to create a conducive environment for the elimination of all forms of violence against women in lndonesia.

Within the project the Austrian Development Cooperation is supporting Konmas in conducting a national conference on Women Human Rights Defenders.

Konmas Perempuan is facilitating a national dialogue in which women human rights defenders from around the country will be brought together to discuss the different ways in which women activists have been silenced and discriminated against throughout lndonesia's modern history and to explore the means to prevent a recurrence of such violations against future women human rights defenders. This dialogue will be a culmination of an on-going process of discussions and testimonies carried out in small groups throughout the year, among women human rights defenders from different parts of the country und from different generations. The national dialogue will be the opening of a four-day summit, in which the peak event will be a public hearing of women victims of violence and discrimination on 29th of November 2006, at the commemoration of the International Day for Women Human Rights Defenders.
