Die Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung, die Fondazione Giuseppe e Pericle Lavazza Onlus und die Löfberg Foundation stehen als gemeinnützige Stiftungen den Kaffeeröstereiunternehmen Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (Deutschland), Lavazza (Italien) sowie Löfberg Lila (Schweden) nahe und verfolgen gemeinsam das Ziel, die Lebensbedingungen kleiner KaffeeproduzentInnen und deren Familien zu verbessern.


Gemeinsam mit der OEZA und in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Unternehmen, NGOs und staatlichen Stellen unterstützen die drei Stiftungen 2.500 äthiopische Kleinbauernfamilien in den Kaffeeanbauregionen Amaro und Amhara. In zwei der ärmsten Gebiete Afrikas werden damit insgesamt 15.000 Personen vom Projekt profitieren. Es handelt sich dabei um eine strategische Allianz im OEZA-Schwerpunktland Äthiopien, wobei die Entwicklung des ländlichen Raums in der OEZA-Schwerpunktregion Amhara besondere Priorität genießt.


Die Maßnahmen des Projekts umfassen die Verbesserung der Anbau- und Verarbeitungsmethoden auf den Kaffeefarmen durch erprobte Trainingsprogramme sowie die Unterstützung beim Aufbau von sechs Genossenschaften und einer Dachorganisation, damit diese ihren Mitgliedsfarmen adäquate Leistung in Logistik, Vermarktung, Unternehmensführung und Qualitätskontrolle bieten zu können. Dadurch wird die Rolle der Kaffeebauern in der Lieferkette gestärkt und der Zugang zu nationalen und internationalen Märkten ermöglicht.


Ergänzend zum Kaffeeanbau werden die Bauern beim Anbau von Grundnahrungsmitteln, Gemüse und Obst unterstützt, um die Eigenversorgung zu sichern und um sich zusätzliche Einkommensmöglichkeiten zu eröffnen. In Paarseminaren wird die oft äußerst ungleiche Verteilung von verfügbarem Einkommen und Arbeitsbelastung zwischen Frauen und Männern in den kleinbäuerlichen Familien thematisiert, um zu einer gerechteren und effizienteren Nutzung der in den Haushalten vorhanden Ressourcen zu kommen.
