Overall goal


Die österreichischen Unternehmen BIOTAN Austria GmbH und BGIS GmbH haben mit Unterstützung der ADA seit 2017 in Dar es Salaam ein Produktionsunternehmen mit einer lokalen Verarbeitungsanlage für Bio-Cashew-Nüsse aufgebaut. Die Cashew-Nüsse werden von KleinbäuerInnen produziert, die in Kooperativen organisiert sind.


Expected results


Ziel des Projekts ist es, die Menge an verarbeiteten rohen Bio-Cashew-Nüssen von derzeit 1.600 auf 4.800 Tonnen jährlich zu verdreifachen und die Wertschöpfungskette, um innovative Produkte aus dem Fruchtfleisch des Cashew-Apfels und der Schale der Cashew-Nuss zu erweitern.

Durch Bio-Prämien und Fairtrade-Preise werden die durchschnittlichen Einkommen von 1500 BäuerInnen und ihren Familien im Mkuranga District um 30% steigen. In der BIOTAN-Verarbeitungsanlage werden neben den bereits bestehenden 300 Jobs zusätzlich 200 Arbeitsplätze entstehen - bei einem Frauenanteil von 80%.


Target group / Beneficiaries


Zur Zielgruppe gehören 200 neue MitarbeiterInnen der Firma BIOTAN (zusätzlich zu den 300 bestehende MitarbeiterInnen) sowie 770 Bauernfamilien (zusätzlich zu den bestehenden 730 Vertragsfarmern) in der von Armut geprägten ländlichen Region des Mkuranga Districts in der südlich von Dar es Salaam gelegenen Küstenregion Tansanias.


Activities


Maßnahmen: 770 Bio-BäuerInnen werden als neue Mitglieder der Bio-Bauern-Produktionsgruppe aufgenommen, geschult, in das interne Kontrollsystem von BIOTAN integriert und durch ein geschultes Team im Bio-Zertifizierungs-Prozess betreut. Neben Maßnahmen zur Ertragssteigerung und zur Einführung des ökologischen Landbaus wird die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der BIOTAN-Fabrik durch die internationale HACCP-Zertifizierung zur Sicherheit in der Lebensmittelverarbeitung und durch die Fairtrade-Zertifizierung gesteigert.


Context


Zur Erweiterung der Wertschöpfungskette werden auf der BIOTAN-Demo-Farm pilotmäßig Cashew-Äpfel zu einer Cashew-Apfel-Paste als Rohstoffe für die Lebensmittelindustrie und die Cashew-Schalen zu Bio-Dünger und Hühnerfutter verarbeitet.
