Additional Technical Assistance to Dagachhu Hydropower Project

As per the Country Strategy Bhutan 2010 – 2013, energy is one of the main sectors of the Austrian Bhutanese development cooperation. In line with the strategy, ADA focusses on providing technical assistance for the successful completion of the ongoing construction of the Dagachhu Hydropower project.
The Dagachhu Hydropower project is located in the South-Western part of Bhutan on the left bank of the Dagachhu river. The project is a run-of-river type hydropower plant and envisages an installed capacity of 126 MW.
The objective is to assist the Dagachhu Hydropower Corporation in its function as project owner to monitor and ensure the execution with the specified quality of all work. By working jointly with experienced experts, the team of the Dagachhu Hydropower Corporation shall be in a better position to fulfill their functions safeguarding the interests of the Royal Government of Bhutan in hydropower projects.
The expected results are
- The construction and commissioning of Dagachhu Hydropower Plant shall take place within the revised time schedule, revised budget frame and as per design, as well as quality standards contracted are observed;
- The national methods for project management and site supervision for the construction of hydroelectric power plants are applied by the Dagachhu Hydropower Corporation
- The international experts are integrated in the technical team of the Dagachhu Hydropower Corporation and work as team jointly with the national counterparts in supervision, monitoring and quality control. This approach serves as a model for other projects of Druk Green Power Corporation.
The commissioning of the Dagachhu Hydropower Plant is scheduled in April 2014.
