Capacity Building of Agricultural Cooperatives (CBAC)

Projektziel
The overall objective is increasing competitiveness of agricultural cooperatives in selected value chains in South Georgia by improving the Government policy framework on cooperatives and through financial as well as technical assistance to cooperatives. The project purpose is to create successful models of cooperative value chains which enable equal opportunities for sustainable socioeconomic development.
Erwartete Ergebnisse
The expected results are: (1) Policy recommendations are considered in the policymaking process; (2) Sustainable agricultural cooperatives are established in selected value chains in the target region.
Zielgruppe
The direct beneficiaries are:
1) Policymakers (ministries), policy implementers (state agencies) and policy advocates: (GFA, agri unions/associations, agricultural educational institutions) and up to 150 cooperatives will benefit from the value chain analysis and consequent policy recommendations.
2) 30 cooperatives and at least 120 members will receive technical assistance in form of trainings. At least 10 cooperatives with at least 40 members (incl.at least 4 ethnic minorities ,10 women (25%) and youths (25%) will benefit from matching grants of up to EUR 30,000 and custom-tailored technical assistance.
3) Indirect beneficiaries are up to 450 members of families of cooperative members and permanent employees.

Hintergrundinformation
The project actively cooperates with the Agriculture Cooperative Development Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Caucasus Environmental NGO Network CENN and International School of Economics ISET.
