Contribution to the ICRC Emergency Appeal Iraq 2015
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been present in Iraq since the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war in 1980 and has been helping internally displaced people (IDPs) and residents to meet their basic needs during emergencies and to restore their livelihoods in remote and/or neglected, violence-prone areas.
Currently, Iraq faces major humanitarian challenges due to the armed conflicts that originally started in Anbar province in January 2014 and since June 2014 have spread to various regions of Northern Iraq, resulting in a large and sudden wave of displacement of people. Approx. 1.8 million Iraqis have become internally displaced persons (IDPs) and are facing dire humanitarian consequences, about 1 million of them is currently living in but mostly outside camps in the Kurdish Region in Iraq.
For 2015, the ICRC has thus appealed for a total of 78.000 CHF (approx. xxx EUR) to deliver assistance up to about 315,000 people, including IDPs. This assistance includes provision of up to 270,000 IDPs, returnees and residents with monthly food parcels and a one-off distribution of household essentials
and the support of up to 10,000 IDP households (60,000 people) with cash assistance, including to help with rent payments. The ICRC also installs/upgrades water, sanitation and irrigation infrastructure in poorly served and/or violence-prone areas or those hosting large IDP populations.
Within this humanitarian aid effort, the ADA contribution of 250.000 Euro enables the ICRC to support a total of 90.000 people (or 15.000 households) with:
a) 2000 food parcels which for 12000 people (or 2000 families),
b) and with 24100 blankets for 24100 people and
c) 9000 stoves for heating and cooking for 54000 people (or 9000 households).
