Contribution to the ICRC Emergency Appeal Iraq 2016 - 2017

Helping IDPs and residents in Iraq meet their basic needs during emergencies and restore their livelihoods, particularly in remote and/or neglected, violence-prone areas; supporting physical rehabilitation, primary-health-care and hospital services; and repairing water, health and prison infrastructure.
Erwartete Ergebnisse
With this Austrian grant, 41.000 civilians are able to meet their basic needs (such as Food, Household Essentials (Hygiene Items, Soap, Washing Powder, etc…) and receive medical care for 2 months (through primary-health-care centres for treatments, referrals to further treatment, medication).
Zielgruppe
The Emergency Appeal is targeting a total of 3.582.180 civilians (residents, IDPs, returnees and 39.500 wounded and sick). The ICRC works closely with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society which in turn is present in all regions of the country (Dohuk, Zummar, Erbil, Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah, Khanakin, Baghdad, Ramadi, Najaf and Basra).
Maßnahmen
In conflict-affected areas, help 41.000 people (6.833 Households) for 2 months to meet their immediate needs by providing IDPs, residents and returnees with:
- food parcels
- household essentials
- medical supplies (through primary-health-care centres)
Hintergrundinformation
Between January 2014 and June 2016, some 3.3 million people have reportedly been displaced; many have been forced to move repeatedly or endure protracted displacement. Tens of thousands have been wounded or killed; several others, purportedly arrested. 10 Mio people are in need of humanitarian assistance. For 2016, the total appeal has amounted to 124,997 Mio CHF .
