Projektziel


By providing low cost and high-quality (equipment for) protheses, the Special Fund for the Disabled (SFD) of the International Comittee of the Red Cross (ICRC) provides quality services to low-income mine victims and disabled people.


The key issues which the SFD 2010 plan of action for Africa aims to address are:


1. Acess to physical rehabilitation services for disabled persons:

¢ In addition to its training program at its regional base in Ethiopia, in 2010 the SFD continues to provide both material and financial assistance to some 7,000 amputees and other physically disabled through 28 other centers in 15 African countries: Benin (2), Cameroon (1), Kenya (2), Madagascar (1), Malawi (2), Mali (2), Mauritania (1), Morocco/West. Sahara (2), Nigeria (2), Senegal (1), Somalia (3), Tanzania (2), Togo (2), Zambia (2) and Zimbabwe (3).


2. Quality of services to patients:

¢ In 2010, the SFD continues to organize advanced one-month refresher courses in prosthetic technology and at its Regional Training Centre in Addis Ababa. The SFD also continues to perform a systematic follow-up of patients receiving services at the sponsored centres.


3. Long-term functioning of physical rehabilitation centers:

¢ In 2010, the SFD continues to assess the impact of previous management training offered to its partner organizations. SFD prothesists continue to provide support to the centers during on-site visits, which also includes drafting of strategies to streamline activities and reduce costs.


The desired impact of the Austrian support to the SFD in Africa is to contribute to the socio-economic integration of persons with disabilities through mobility restoration with a prostehses or orthoses.

  • Modalität: definiert die Art der Hilfe (z.B: Sektorbudgethilfe, Kernbeiträge an multilaterale Institutionen, Projekthilfe, Technische Assistenz (personelle Hilfe), Bildungsarbeit im Inland, etc.)
  • Sektor: bezeichnet den wirtschaftlichen oder sozialen Sektor des Partnerlandes, welcher mit dem Projekt/Programm unterstützt wird.
  • Tied/Untied: Ungebundene (untied) Hilfe ermöglicht dem Projektpartner im Entwicklungsland - unter Befolgung der lokalen Beschaffungsregeln - freie Entscheidung über die Herkunftsländer im Zuge der Beschaffung von Dienstleistungen und Waren. Gebundene (tied) Hilfe verknüpft die Hilfsleistung auf die Beschaffung aus dem Geberland oder aus einem eingeschränkten Kreis von Ländern.
