Hintergrundinformation
On 25th of August 2022, the Government of Pakistan officially declared a 'national emergency', following wide-spread rain induced floods across the country. Over 1,000 people have been killed and more than 33 million people affected by the ongoing disaster. The country is experiencing abnormal monsoon rainfall nearly three times higher than the past 30-year average, which have resulted in uncontrolled flash flood and landslides. The floods have also gravely affected infrastructure with over 1.1 million houses damaged across the country. In addition, around 720,000 livestock have been lost as of early September and more than 6,000 km of roads and 250 bridges have been damaged. The authorities have already rescued over 50,000 people while more than 500,000 individuals are living in temporary camps. Altogether, around 7.6 million have been displaced from their homes.
