Projektziel


As the Syrian emergency develops into a protracted displacement, host countries such as Turkey and aid agencies are placing increasing emphasis on education and livelihood interventions. Since late 2014, Turkey has become the largest refugee host country in the world, with over 2 million refugees seeking asylum on its territory. Language education is critical to facilitate social harmony, access to education and access to the labour market.


In 2015/2016, UNHCR Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan Turkey aims at supporting the Government of Turkey in the response to this protracted refugee crisis and to assist impacted communities with regards to basic needs, public water and waste management, health care, education and livelihood initiatives and national/subnational systems to cope. UNHCR’s total financial requirements for this appeal amount to 292 million USD.


Erwartete Ergebnisse


The Austrian contribution enables 900 Syrian refugee students in Turkey to improve their possibilities to access higher education and effectively insert themselves in the labour market as well as to facilitate their communication and social engagement in Turkey through certified Turkish language courses.


Zielgruppe



Recognizing higher education being an important path to build up the self-reliance of the refugee community as well as prepare them for the future return, UNHCR in Turkey is partnering with the government institution Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB).Together they provide 10-months certified Turkish language courses at the Ankara University Turkish and Foreign Languages Research and Application Center (TOMER) up to level C1 to facilitate Syrian refugee students’ university access as Turkey has been waiving tuition fees for refugee students studying in Turkish state universities.

  • Sektor: bezeichnet den wirtschaftlichen oder sozialen Sektor des Partnerlandes, welcher mit dem Projekt/Programm unterstützt wird.
  • Tied/Untied: Ungebundene (untied) Hilfe ermöglicht dem Projektpartner im Entwicklungsland - unter Befolgung der lokalen Beschaffungsregeln - freie Entscheidung über die Herkunftsländer im Zuge der Beschaffung von Dienstleistungen und Waren. Gebundene (tied) Hilfe verknüpft die Hilfsleistung auf die Beschaffung aus dem Geberland oder aus einem eingeschränkten Kreis von Ländern.
