Contribution to UNICEF Haiti Emergency Response Program
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
The humanitarian aid measures under this grant are financed from the Austrian Foreign Disaster Aid Fund.
The grant is a contribution to UNICEF's response to the earthquake in Haiti of 12 January 2010, as outlined in the UN "Haiti Revised Humanitarian Appeal".
Despite a massive concerted humanitarian response, the situation on the ground remains very precarious. The large-scale humanitarian needs of hundred of thousands of people affected by the earthquake include access to water and sanitation facilities, health care, adequate nutrition, restoration of education services and protection of particularly vulnerable groups of the population.
The relief and recovery activities of UNICEF and its implementing partners aim to address and alleviate those needs by providing the following kinds of support to the people affected by the earthquake:
¢ Education, inlcuding the restoration of education services for earthquake affected children.
¢ Health care: supporting the provision of essential health services for women and children.
¢ Nutrition: maintaining an optimal nutritional status of Haitian children and mothers.
¢ Protection: prevention and response to family separation, trafficking, smuggling and illegal movement, as well as psycho-social support and prevention and response to gender-based violence.
¢ Water, Sanitation and Hygiene: reducing health risks related to unsafe water, lack of sanitation and poor hygiene practice, particularly women and children.
