Contribution to UNRWA Health Program for Palestinian Refugees 2015
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
UNRWA has been providing health care for Palestine refugees in the Near East for over six decades. Palestine refugees are especially vulnerable as they are a socially disadvantaged group whose lives have been conditioned for generations by social, political and economic forces well beyond their control.
Today, a rapidly growing population of 2.8 million Palestine refugees in the occupied Palestinian Territories (oPT) is eligible for UNRWA services. UNRWA’s network of 65 primary health care facilities and mobile clinics is the foundation of its health assistance to Palestine refugees in the oPT. UNRWA also runs 29 hospitals in the oPT.
The UNRWA health program in the oPT will enable Palestine refugees to live long and healthy lives. Specifically it aims to:
- increase the percentage of healh facilities with adequate stock of medicine to 100%;
- increase the number of women attending preconception care by 10% (West Bank) and 5% (Gaza);
- maintain immunization coverage against vaccine-preventable childhood illnesses at current levels at 99%;
- in Gaza, Increase the number of patients with diabetes under ‘control’ from 43.8% to 46.0%.
With this contribution of 1,250,000 Euros, UNRWA will be in a position, for example:
- to reach approx. 1,500 patients who seek assistance in the 7 hospitals in Gaza and 22 hospitals in the West Bank ( which provide e.g. surgical services, gynecology and
obstetrics) and in the the 65 health centers offering primary health care across the oPT.
650 of them would be infants and children, 300 pregnant women and 530 diabetic patientes.
This grant contributes to the UNRWA health program for all the Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (with a total budget of approx. 122 million USD) and is specifically earmarked towards the 2015 health program for Palestinian Refugees in Gaza and the West Bank (with a budgeted USD 60 million for the 2.8 million refugees in the Palestinian Territories).
