Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
The proposed two-year project "Countdown 2010: Development of an Eco-village Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the border to Serbia and Montenegro" focuses on integrated biodiversity conservation of ecosystems and its natural resources towards a sustainable economical development of rural areas and local population. Based on the trans-boundary conservation strategy approach of IUCN-The World Conservation Union in co-operation with partner organisations "MOST", "request" and "CeM&OS" from the region as facilitators and communication and information exchange platform for the local stakeholders, the project serves the main themes of the development policy of the Austrian Development Agency, such as poverty reduction, employment and strengthening of civil society in South Eastern Europe. The project is based on the idea of creating environmentally clean and ecologically sound areas in two mountainous regions at the border of the Republic of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), and in the southern Republic of Serbia close to the border with UNMIK Kosovo, which will be organized through development of a network of Eco-Villages. The main goal of the project will be served by these Eco-Villages, "communities with tightly-knit social structures, united by common ecological, social and/or spiritual values¿. with the simple principle of not taking more away from the Earth than one gives back¿". The intention is to enhance sustainable economic development of the local rural communities in the chosen regions, while promoting and strengthening biodiversity conservation. The project purposes are: 1) To improve livelihood of local communities in rural areas; 2) Established by sustainable use of natural assets considering integrated biodiversity conservation.
